Welcome to Exploring Elsewhere! I’m Natasha, an outdoor adventure traveler based in NYC who has too few vacation days and is constantly strategizing how to use them to explore the world. From studying abroad in Budapest in 2016 to solo traveling Southeast Asia for two months in 2018 to annual month-long Euro trips in the 2020s, I’m eager to explore the world in whatever capacity I can – and that also means exploring it with you. My passion is two-fold: outdoor adventure mixed with cultural exploration, allowing me to experience the beauty of our natural world and deepen my understanding of and connection with people across it. There’s almost nothing off the table for me when it comes to travel and if you feel the same I can’t wait to see you in Sri Lanka!
Itinerary
Day 1 Arrive in Colombo & Transfer to Negombo
Welcome to Sri Lanka! Upon landing at Colombo International Airport, a representative will greet you for your transfer to the coastal town of Negombo. Known for its charming lagoon, historic churches, and bustling fishing culture, this vibrant town offers a glimpse into Sri Lanka’s heritage. Relax by the beach, explore the narrow streets, or enjoy a boat ride on the lagoon before settling into your hotel for the evening.
Day 2 Dambulla Cave Temples & Minneriya NP Wildlife Safari
Journey to Dambulla, a town rich in cultural and historical treasures. Visit the UNESCO-listed Dambulla Cave Temple, a stunning complex of five caves adorned with intricate Buddhist art and over 150 Buddha statues. Marvel at the massive reclining Buddha and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding countryside before heading to your hotel. Later, embark on an exciting jeep safari through Minneriya National Park to witness elephants and other wildlife in their natural habitat.
Day 3 Sigiriya Rock Fortress, Cooking Demonstration & Travel to Kandy
Rise early to explore the iconic Sigiriya Rock Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Climb past the Lion’s Paws and ancient frescoes to the summit, where panoramic views await. Wander through the site’s impressive water and boulder gardens, remnants of a once-majestic palace. Later, immerse yourself in Sri Lanka’s culinary traditions with a private cooking demonstration. Learn to prepare authentic dishes and enjoy your delicious creations.
Later in teh day, travel to Kandy, a scenic city nestled in the central hills. As Sri Lanka’s cultural capital, Kandy boasts colonial charm, bustling markets, and the serene Kandy Lake. Visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, a UNESCO World Heritage Site housing one of Buddhism’s most revered artifacts. Take in the temple’s grandeur during the evening puja ceremony before relaxing at your hotel.
