Sofaia Gribben

Hey, I’m Sofaia (also known as Fifi), a travel enthusiast and photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I have a passion for discovering new destinations, exploring diverse cultures, and capturing stunning wildlife through my lens. Growing up by the ocean, I’m a true water baby — often found freediving, surfing, or water skiing! From the vibrant underwater world to unique cultural experiences, my experiences showcase my adventurous spirit. I love inspiring others to explore the beauty our world has to offer and can’t wait to document more trips with like-minded people!

Jonas Puidokas

Hey, I’m Jonas! I’m a traveling director who’s always on the go. Even though home for me is Ireland, I’ve been blessed to spend the last few years living and exploring many different places, all of which I have fallen in love with and many of which I have even brought group tours out to myself. I’ve a passion for capturing the most beautiful moments of magic that occur on all the trips I take, whether it is witnessing the Aurora Borealis for the first time or sleeping above the clouds to witness the most stunning cloud inversion in the deepest corner of earth, you name it, I will be there with a camera. I’ve been very blessed to create and tell these travel stories for a living and I can’t wait to document more in the trips to come.

Day 2 Sesriem

This morning, drive south to Sesriem, the gateway to the stunning Sossusvlei Dunes, Deadvlei, and Sesriem Canyon. Nestled in the heart of the Namib Desert, you’ll be surrounded by some of the most spectacular dune fields in the world. In the afternoon, explore Sesriem Gorge, a serene natural corridor carved by water erosion over thousands of years.

Historically, locals used six knotted belts to draw water from the gorge, giving it the name “Sesriem,” meaning “six belts” in Afrikaans. Return to camp early to rest and prepare for your dawn hike tomorrow.

Day 3 Sossusvlei, Deadvlei

Today, you’ll embark on an early morning visit to Sossusvlei, located at the end of an ancient riverbed in the heart of the Namib Desert. The park gates open at 6:45 AM, and arriving early ensures you avoid the crowds and experience the serene beauty of the area in the soft morning light. If you’re feeling adventurous, a climb to the top of Dune 45 will reward you with unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding dunes and desert landscape, making it a perfect spot for photography.

After stopping for breakfast, continue to Dead Vlei, a striking clay pan known for its surreal, postcard-like images. Dead Vlei is encircled by some of the highest sand dunes in the world, including the towering “Big Daddy” and “Crazy Dune,” which rise to about 350 meters. The contrast of the white clay pan against the red dunes and the deep blue sky creates a mesmerizing and iconic vista.

Day 4 Skeleton Coast

Continue your journey to the beachside town of Swakopmund, located along the Skeleton Coast. En route, make a stop at the small settlement of Solitaire, a quirky spot dotted with abandoned trucks, cars, petrol pumps, and cacti. This unique place is the only location between Walvis Bay and Sossusvlei with a petrol station, post office, general store, and bakery. Be sure to try a piece of their famous apple pie, which has earned quite a reputation.

As you proceed, you’ll pass by Moon Valley, named for its eerie, lunar-like landscape, and cross the Tropic of Capricorn. Take a brief detour to Walvis Bay, a hibernation area for thousands of migratory birds, including graceful flamingos.

Upon arriving in Swakopmund, enjoy some time for lunch before joining your local guide on an orientation walk. This will give you a feel for the town’s unique German-Namibian atmosphere, blending coastal charm with colonial history.

The day is yours to enjoy in this beautiful coastal town. Your accommodation is conveniently located within walking distance of the town center, allowing easy access to the beach, open-air markets, and the local museum.

There are a bunch of optional activities available for those who are keen. Sofaia and Jonas highly recommend the Mola Mola 4×4 Dune Drive and Seal Kayak Tour, as this was a highlight of their last trip to Namibia. This can be organised in advance for those that are keen.

Day 6 Damaraland

Leave the Atlantic Ocean coastline behind as you embark on a scenic drive towards the Namib Desert, tracing a path along the captivating Skeleton Coast. Along the way, immerse yourself in the breathtaking diversity of landscapes that unfold before your eyes. Admire towering mountains silhouetted against the sky, traverse expansive sand dunes sculpted by the wind, and witness the rhythmic crash of ocean waves against the rugged shoreline. Amidst this natural splendor, you’ll also encounter remnants of maritime history in the form of shipwrecks scattered along the coast, each telling its own story of adventure and peril.

Continuing inland, your journey leads to Damaraland, a region characterized by its stark beauty and remarkable contrasts. Here, Namibia’s highest peak stands proudly amidst a landscape adorned with ancient rock paintings that offer a glimpse into the lives of early inhabitants. Damaraland’s sparse population allows for a serene exploration of its natural wonders, providing a profound sense of connection with the land and its rich history.

In the afternoon we head out on a desert adapted nature drive offering the chance to enjoy amazing interactions and photography opportunities with elephants and other animals.

Day 7 Twyfelfontein & Petrified Forest

In the morning, explore the fascinating sights of Twyfelfontein Heritage Site and the Petrified Forest. Twyfelfontein boasts one of the largest concentrations of ancient rock engravings in southern Africa, offering a captivating glimpse into the region’s rich cultural and historical heritage. Meanwhile, the Petrified Forest provides a window into nature’s ancient history, with fossilized tree trunks dating back 280 million years.

Local guides will accompany us at both sites, leading informative walks lasting between 30 to 60 minutes. While the trails are generally manageable, the Twyfelfontein site includes some steep rocks and hills, so it’s advisable to wear a hat, apply sunscreen, and carry water to stay comfortable under the often intense daytime temperatures, which can peak around 30°C. After sightseeing, return to the lodge to unwind, perhaps relaxing by the pool or finding shade to enjoy the remainder of the day at your leisure.

Day 8 Travel to Etosha National Park

This morning, we depart from our lodge and begin our journey towards Etosha National Park, covering approximately 220 kilometers over about 5 hours. Etosha is renowned for its abundant wildlife, facilitated by man-made waterholes and expansive, sparsely vegetated pans that make animal sightings relatively easy.

Navigating through the bushland surrounding these pans can be challenging due to dense vegetation, but the park’s well-positioned clearings, waterholes, and salt pans provide ample opportunities to observe large herds of elephants, antelope, and other herbivores. Namibia’s commitment to protecting its game reserves from poaching ensures a thriving ecosystem, offering a remarkable experience for wildlife enthusiasts and photographers alike.

Make sure your camera is fully charged tonight, as tomorrow promises a full day immersed in one of the world’s premier wildlife viewing destinations.

Day 9 Etosha National Park Safari

Today promises two exhilarating game drives through Etosha National Park, offering ample opportunities to immerse yourself in its rich wildlife. Begin with a morning safari, keeping a keen eye out for iconic species such as the elusive black rhino, Hartmann’s mountain zebra, graceful black-faced impala, majestic roan antelope, and the diminutive Damara dik-dik. The park’s strategic placement of man-made waterholes and expansive, sparsely vegetated pans makes spotting these creatures relatively straightforward.

Navigating the bushland surrounding the pans can be challenging due to dense vegetation, yet the park’s well-maintained clearings, waterholes, and salt pans provide optimal vantage points for wildlife viewing. After an eventful day of safari adventures, return to the campsite in the evening to unwind and reflect on the awe-inspiring encounters with Etosha’s diverse wildlife. This reflective time allows you to savor the memories of an unforgettable day spent amidst Namibia’s remarkable natural wonders.
