Elise McLean – Elise’s Travel Diary

Hi, I’m Elise – just your average Aussie girl obsessed with travel. Travelling is what makes me feel most alive, and life now revolves around my next adventure or holiday destination.

I yearn for those long car road trips to new places, ticking waterfalls off my bucket list, hiking across mountain ranges, walking in lush rainforests and ending the day with a killer sunset, a yummy meal and a glass of wine.

Now, I’m thrilled to be able to take YOU along with me to explore some of my favourite places and of course, share a whole lot of hidden gems too. Not only that – both me and my partner Isaac will be on hand to give you tips on how capture amazing photos and videos as well. Let’s go!

Sunday 20th October 2024 Melbourne to Lorne

The adventure begins with a pick-up centrally located in the Melbourne CBD. Our first stop is Point Addis, a hidden gem perfect for a quick photo session, and some epic selfies. After soaking in the views and getting a few awesome photos and videos, we’ll continue to Anglesea for an early lunch.

In the afternoon, we will visit the Urquhart Bluff Beach Rock Pool, another hidden gem ideal for a refreshing swim or exploration (if the weather behaves itself). Next up is our first waterfall – the beautiful Erskine Falls tucked into a stunning rainforest backdrop. The walk down to the bottom is short but a little steep – but the view from the top is ace as well!

It’s then on to Lorne, where you can check into your accommodation at Mantra Lorne and enjoy some free time before we head out for dinner.

Monday 21st October 2024 Lorne to Apollo Bay

Who likes waterfalls?! The Otway Ranges are renowned for their beautiful waterfalls, and this morning after some breaky and a stop for snacks, we are going to check out Phantom Falls, Henderson Falls. and Sheoak Falls. All of these waterfalls are accessible via short scenic walks through the forest.

We’ll grab a late lunch in Apollo Bay, followed by some free time to explore this charming coastal town. We’ll visit Marriners Lookout for panoramic views of the coast before checking into our accommodation at Seacroft Estate in Skenes Creek. We pretty much have this ENTIRE property to ourselves, so we’ll take advantage and have a communal dinner there, with epic views of the sunset over farmland and ocean as we enjoy woodfired pizzas from local fave Apollo Bay Distillery.

Tuesday 22nd October 2024 Apollo Bay to Port Campbell

Today we LOTS of exploring to do, so we have an early start and we’ll be taking delicious packed lunches with us. Our first stop will be either Stevensons Falls or Hopetoun Falls, depending on the group’s preferences – both are awesome!

Next, we will visit the Otways Redwood Forest, where an easy walk will take you through this stunning forest surrounded by towering Californian Redwoods. It’s truly like another world!

We’ll enjoy our packed lunch at the picnic tables here, enjoying the magical surroundings. In the afternoon, if time permits, we’ll visit the South Chapple Falls at Lavers Hill, another hidden gem.

Our accommodation in Port Campbell is the lovely Daysy Hill Cottages. We may have some time to chill before dinner at a local favourite and a spectacular sunset visit to Gibson Steps for breathtaking views and amazing photo opportunities.

Wednesday 23rd October 2024 Port Campbell to Warrnambool

This morning, we’ll visit the iconic Twelve Apostles. You may have heard of them, you may even have seen them, but you probably have not have seen them BY HELICOPTER! That’s right, we have an included helicopter flight with Apostles Helicopters to allow you to witness this amazing spot from whole new perspective. We will of course also check out the viewpoints at ground level – we might even get there for a pre-breaky sunrise if the group is keen!

This area has a heap of great spots – and we will visit some of the underrated ones like Bakers Oven and The Grotto. For lunch, we’ll check out another local fave, Ted’s Cafe in Peterborough. The afternoon will be spent at Sandy Bay Beach or Childers Cove, hidden gems perfect for swimming or relaxing (again, if the weather behaves).

Tonight we are staying at the amazing Deep Blue Hot Springs, and we’ll check in before heading out for a group farewell dinner at Images Restaurant in Warrnambool.

Thursday 24th October 2024 Deep Blue Hot Springs, Warrnambool to Melbourne

We couldn’t possibly stay at Deep Blue without checking out their amazing hot springs! We have a morning session booked for the perfect start to our day, before an included breakfast at Deep Blue’s restaurant.

Afterwards, we will head to Tower Hill Reserve for wildlife spotting and exploration. We’ll start the drive back to Melbourne, with a quick stop at Hopkins Falls and lunch in Colac, where we might head up to Red Rocks Lookout if we have time and the group is keen.

The drive will give us plenty of time to chat and relive our wonderful last few days together, and we will aim for a late afternoon drop-off back in the Melbourne CBD.
