This unique journey with Kiera Blaney takes you deep into the heart of Mongolia, where ancient traditions and vast, untamed landscapes await. From the bustling streets of Ulaanbaatar to the remote, rugged wilderness of the Taiga, this trip will immerse you in the rich culture and history of one of the world’s last truly nomadic societies. Along the way, you’ll explore the ancient city of Karakorum, once the thriving capital of the Mongol Empire and a major hub along the Silk Road. You’ll walk among the ruins of this historic city, visit the Erdene Zuu Monastery, and discover artifacts that reveal Mongolia’s fascinating past.

Throughout the itinerary, you’ll have the rare opportunity to learn about the lives of the Tsaatan people, helping them with daily chores, riding reindeer, and gaining a deeper understanding of their Shamanic traditions. The trip is designed to offer a true cultural immersion, allowing you to explore the beauty of Mongolia’s landscapes, meet local artisans, and connect with families whose way of life remains largely unchanged. In addition to your time with the Tsaatan, you’ll hike through the volcanic terrain of Khorgo, where dramatic craters and ancient lava formations create a breathtaking backdrop. Whether you’re sharing in a traditional meal, horseback riding through the wilderness, or taking part in local crafts, each day will offer something new and memorable.

This adventure is not just about seeing Mongolia; it’s about experiencing it in a meaningful and personal way, just as Kiera has done herself. You’ll have the chance to connect with the land, the people, and the wildlife that make this country so extraordinary. With time to reflect, explore, and learn, this journey will leave you with lasting memories and a deeper appreciation for Mongolia’s ancient traditions, natural beauty, and the resilient spirit of its nomadic people.

Kiera Blaney

Hey, I’m Kiera, an adventure travel creator, hiking leader, and storyteller with a passion for exploring hidden gems off the beaten path. I’ve walked the 88 Temple Pilgrimage in Japan, hiked the Manimahesh Yatra pilgrimage in India with Hindu priests, cycled from Italy to Greece following Marco Polo’s footsteps, and gone horse trekking across Mongolia’s rugged landscapes. Now I want to take you with me!

At 18, I was a tour guide in Madrid, and now I’m thrilled to lead adventures, showing you personal, off-the-beaten-path experiences while connecting with local communities.

Through my adventures, I aim to inspire women to explore with confidence. I used to be afraid to hike or camp alone, but now I see the outdoors as a space for pushing boundaries, embracing challenges, and connecting with nature. Expect surprises, morning yoga, and peaceful meditation sessions during our journeys together.

Once a thriving political, cultural, and trade center, Karakorum played a crucial role during its time as the Mongol Empire’s capital. Though the city was later abandoned and destroyed, its legacy endures through the Erdene Zuu Monastery, Mongolia’s first Buddhist monastery, built in 1588. Enclosed within massive walls, the monastery is home to three remaining temples—Dalai Lama, Zuu of Buddha, and Lavrin—which we’ll explore.

Notable highlights include a Turkic noble’s tomb and a half excavated kiln embedded in the museum floor. If time allows, we’ll browse a small market showcasing local artists’ crafts.
