Day 1Arrive in Negombo
Upon landing in Colombo, you’ll be warmly greeted and whisked away to your beachside haven in Negombo. This coastal town, known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant atmosphere, will be the perfect start to your Sri Lankan adventure. At the hotel, which offers all the modern comforts and stunning ocean views, you’ll meet your fellow travelers who will be your companions on this journey. As you settle in, excitement begins to build for the adventures that lie ahead, and the group’s first evening together sets the tone for the unforgettable experiences to come.
Day 2Sigiriya Tuk Tuk Ride
Today we dive straight into the local culture with a tuk-tuk ride through Negombo. This picturesque seaside town is brimming with history and charm, from its colonial architecture to its bustling fish markets. As we navigate the narrow streets, we’ll make a stop at the local fish markets, where you can witness the daily catch being displayed in vibrant arrays of color and freshness. After immersing ourselves in the local scene, we’ll head north to Sigiriya, a town steeped in spiritual significance. There, you’ll check into a luxurious hotel, complete with modern amenities like air conditioning, WiFi, and ensuite rooms, ensuring a comfortable stay as you prepare to explore the sacred surroundings.
Day 3Sigiriya & Local Villages
Our day begins with a breathtaking adventure as we climb the rock adjacent to the ancient Sigiriya Rock Fortress. This UNESCO World Heritage site offers more than just historical significance; it presents panoramic 360-degree views that will leave you in awe. The climb, though challenging, is well worth it as you reach the summit and take in the stunning vistas of lush greenery stretching as far as the eye can see. This is a moment to truly savor the natural beauty and ancient history that defines Sri Lanka.
After descending, we shift our focus to the rural heart of the country with a visit to a nearby village. Here, you’ll gain insight into the daily lives of small rural communities, experiencing firsthand their traditions and way of life. We’ll travel through the village using unique local transportation, immersing ourselves in the simplicity and charm of village life. The day culminates with a special treat as local women demonstrate their culinary skills in a cooking demonstration, where you’ll not only watch but also savor the delicious results. This is more than just a meal; it’s an opportunity to connect with the locals and understand the flavors and traditions that make Sri Lankan cuisine so special.
Day 4Spice Garden & Temple of the Tooth
Saying goodbye to Sigiriya, we journey south to Kandy, the cultural heart of Sri Lanka. En route, we’ll make a fascinating stop at a spice garden. Here, you’ll discover the secrets behind Sri Lanka’s world-renowned spices, learning about their cultivation, harvesting, and various uses in cooking and traditional medicine. The aroma of fresh spices in the air is intoxicating, and you’ll leave with a deeper appreciation for the rich agricultural traditions of the region.
Once we arrive in Kandy, our exploration continues with a visit to the Temple of the Tooth, one of the most sacred Buddhist sites in the world. The temple, which houses a revered relic of the Buddha, is not only a place of worship but also a cultural treasure, with intricate architecture and a serene atmosphere that invites reflection. After immersing yourself in the spiritual and cultural significance of Kandy, we’ll cap off the day with dinner and drinks, giving you a taste of the city’s vibrant nightlife and a chance to unwind with your travel companions.
Day 5Tea Picking & A Scenic Train Ride to Ella
Today, our journey takes us deeper into Sri Lanka’s verdant landscapes as we head towards Ella, a town famed for its lush tea plantations. As we travel through the rolling hills, we’ll stop to get up close with the tea fields that stretch endlessly in every direction. Here, you’ll have the opportunity to learn the delicate art of tea picking from local experts, understanding the process from plant to cup. This hands-on experience is not only educational but also deeply immersive, connecting you to one of Sri Lanka’s most iconic industries.
The adventure continues as we board a train bound for Ella, embarking on what is often described as one of the world’s most scenic train journeys. The route winds through mist-covered hills, past cascading waterfalls, and over breathtaking viaducts, offering views that are nothing short of spectacular. Upon arrival in Ella, we’ll settle into our serene surroundings and head out for a memorable dinner at a popular local restaurant. The evening might end with a few drinks, celebrating the beauty of the day’s journey and the vibrant energy of this charming town.
Day 6Little Adam's Peak
After the festivities of the previous night, a leisurely start to the day is in order. We’ll lace up our walking shoes and set out to hike Little Adam’s Peak, a relatively easy trek that rewards us with stunning panoramic views of the surrounding countryside. The path winds through tea plantations and lush greenery, and as you ascend, the vistas become more and more breathtaking. At the summit, you’ll be greeted with a sweeping view of Ella’s picturesque landscape, a perfect spot to capture the moment and breathe in the fresh mountain air.
The afternoon is yours to explore Ella at your own pace. This quaint town offers a variety of activities, from indulging in a traditional Sri Lankan massage to browsing the local shops for unique souvenirs. If you prefer a more relaxed pace, you can simply unwind with a book and a cup of locally brewed tea, soaking in the tranquil atmosphere of this hill-country gem. Whatever you choose, the day is yours to enjoy, with the stunning backdrop of Ella providing the perfect setting for a day of leisure.
Day 7Nine Arches Bridge
Prepare your cameras as we set off early to visit one of Sri Lanka’s most Instagrammable spots: the Nine Arches Bridge. This iconic railway bridge, set amidst dense jungle and tea plantations, is a marvel of engineering and a photographer’s dream. As the morning light filters through the trees, the bridge’s arches create a mesmerizing scene that captures the essence of Sri Lanka’s natural beauty and architectural heritage. Whether you’re snapping photos or simply soaking in the view, this is a moment you won’t want to miss.
From the Nine Arches Bridge, our journey takes us further south to Udawalawe National Park. Upon arrival, we’ll check into a beautiful, laid-back hotel perched right on the edge of the park. The serene setting, surrounded by nature, is the perfect place to relax and prepare for the wildlife adventures that await. The day winds down with a peaceful evening at the hotel, where you can take in the sounds of the jungle as you rest and recharge for the next day’s safari.
Day 8Sunrise Safari
Rise with the sun as we embark on an early morning jeep safari through Udawalawe National Park. This park is renowned for its population of wild elephants, and with a bit of luck, we’ll encounter these majestic creatures as they roam freely through their natural habitat. The safari is not just about elephants, though; keep an eye out for crocodiles basking on the riverbanks, buffalo grazing in the meadows, and a variety of bird species soaring above. The early morning light creates a magical atmosphere, perfect for wildlife photography and quiet contemplation.
After the thrill of the safari, we’ll head to the coastal oasis of Hiriketiya for a relaxing afternoon. This hidden gem of a beach offers crystal-clear waters, golden sands, and a tranquil ambiance that invites you to unwind and soak up the sun. Later, we’ll make our way to our beachfront eco-retreat in Tallala, where the day ends with a BBQ dinner as we watch the sunset. This is the perfect spot to relax and reflect on the incredible experiences of the day, surrounded by the natural beauty of Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
Day 9Beachside Yoga & Chill
Today is all about relaxation and rejuvenation as we spend the day at our beautiful retreat in Tallala. Start the day with a refreshing yoga session, where the sound of the waves and the gentle sea breeze create the perfect environment for finding inner peace. The rest of the day is yours to enjoy as you see fit. Whether you choose to lounge by the pool with a good book, indulge in a traditional Ayurvedic massage, or simply doze off under the shade of a palm tree, the goal is to relax and recharge in this idyllic setting.
Tallala’s secluded beach, known as one of the south’s best-kept secrets, offers a perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of daily life. The tranquil waters invite you to take a dip, while the pristine sands are ideal for a leisurely stroll. As the day winds down, you’ll feel the stress melt away, leaving you refreshed and ready for the adventures that still lie ahead. This day of relaxation is a well-deserved break, allowing you to fully appreciate the beauty and serenity of Sri Lanka’s southern coast.
Day 10Learn to Surf
From one sun-kissed beach to another, today we head to Weligama Beach, a renowned surfing spot where the waves are perfect for beginners and experienced surfers alike. After a quick briefing, you’ll hit the waves for a private surf lesson with a skilled instructor. Whether it’s your first time or you’re looking to improve your skills, the warm waters and gentle waves make for a fun and exhilarating experience. By the end of the lesson, you might just find yourself hooked on the thrill of surfing.
After catching some waves, we’ll continue our journey to Mirissa, where we’ll check into our beachfront accommodation. In the evening, we’ll visit the iconic Coconut Tree Hill, a picturesque spot offering stunning views of the ocean framed by swaying palm trees. As the sun sets, casting a golden glow over the landscape, you’ll have the perfect backdrop for those last few vacation photos. The day ends with a relaxed evening, giving you time to reflect on the adventures so far and look forward to the experiences still to come.
Day 11Buddhist Monastery Visit
On our penultimate day, we save one of the most meaningful experiences for last. We’ll visit a local Buddhist monastery, where you’ll have the opportunity to participate in a cultural exchange with the monk students who reside there. This unique experience offers deep insights into the Buddhist way of life, as the monks share their daily routines, beliefs, and practices with you. The serene environment of the monastery, combined with the monks’ wisdom and hospitality, creates an atmosphere of peace and reflection, making this a truly special part of your journey.
As evening falls, we’ll gather for a farewell dinner on the beach, celebrating the incredible experiences and friendships formed over the past days. With the sound of the waves and the stars overhead, this final dinner is a time to reminisce about the highlights of the trip, share stories, and simply enjoy the company of your fellow travelers. It’s the perfect way to wrap up an unforgettable journey through Sri Lanka, leaving you with memories that will last a lifetime.
Day 12Fond Farewell
As your 12-day adventure comes to an end, it’s time to bid farewell to Sri Lanka and the new friends you’ve made along the way. For those flying home, we’ll arrange transport back to the airport in Negombo, ensuring a smooth and stress-free journey. But if you’re not ready to say goodbye just yet, we can help you extend your stay in this beautiful country, allowing you to explore more of Sri Lanka’s wonders at your own pace.

ARRIVAL INFORMATION
It’s best to arrive on the actual start date, or earlier. There’s no activities on the first day, so you can arrive at any time. If you do arrive early, we’ll still pick you up from the airport if you’re staying at our accommodation.
AFTER THE TRIP
The trip finishes in Mirissa. You can choose to stay on longer in Mirissa, continue your travels in Sri Lanka or make your way back to the airport. For those departing Sri Lanka, a free bus will be departing Mirissa between 8-10.30am on the final day. This bus is free of charge and will take you to Hotel J in Negombo, arriving at approx. 12-2pm. You are welcome to use the hotel’s facilities until you are ready to make your way to the airport. Your group leader can organise this all for you and will ensure you’re comfortable with all parts of your onward travel.
VISAS
Most nationalities require a visa or ETA (electronic travel authority) to enter Sri Lanka. This visa is typically for 30 days and can generally be done on arrival at the airport or online. The cost is usually approx. $35USD. We recommend checking with your local consulates for up-to-date visa requirements and costs.

Travel insurance is compulsory, and you will be asked to provide proof of your cover before your trip begins.
