Itinerary

Day 1. Delhi

Namaste! Upon your arrival in India, your journey commences in Delhi. An essential welcome meeting is scheduled for 6 pm today, providing an opportunity to meet your trip leader and fellow travelers. Should you arrive in Delhi ahead of time, you’ll find ample opportunities to immerse yourself in the vibrant atmosphere of this bustling city. Consider strolling through its lively streets, indulging in your first taste of chai, or honing your bargaining skills at the myriad markets. Later in the evening, seek recommendations from your leader on prime locations to experience the local nightlife, and perhaps venture out with newfound companions to explore Delhi’s nocturnal offerings.

Day 2. Delhi - overnight train

Commence your day with a guided walking tour of Delhi’s bustling commercial hub, which includes visits to Chandni Chowk and Connaught Place. Delve deeper into the historic streets of Old Delhi aboard a bicycle rickshaw, stopping at Gurudwara Sis Ganj Sahib, a revered Sikh shrine steeped in history. Immerse yourself in the community atmosphere by participating in chapati-making at the shrine’s communal kitchen, where all are welcome regardless of background. Following the tour, enjoy some leisure time for further exploration before embarking on an overnight journey aboard a sleeper train bound for Varanasi.

Day 3. Varanasi

Upon arrival in Varanasi in the early hours of the morning, proceed directly to the hotel to refresh before immersing yourself in the spiritual ambiance of this ancient city, revered as one of the oldest in the world. Varanasi holds profound significance for Hindu pilgrims, drawing devotees from far and wide to partake in its sacred rituals. Accompanied by your trip leader, embark on a guided walking tour through the labyrinthine alleyways and hidden corners of the city, followed by contemplative moments by the ghats, where one can observe the ebb and flow of life along the riverbanks. The evening grants you freedom to explore the temples and shrines at your leisure, perhaps seizing the opportunity to engage in yoga practice at renowned chakra-balancing locales, or simply relishing in the tranquil atmosphere as you prepare for an early start the next day.

Day 4. Varanasi - overnight train

Commence your day with an early rise for an unforgettable experience: a sunrise boat excursion along the sacred Ganges River. Regardless of one’s spiritual inclination, the profoundness of this journey is undeniable. Glide past the numerous ghats and temples lining the riverbanks, witnessing the devout Hindu pilgrims engage in purifying rituals amidst the ethereal glow of the rising sun, painting the surroundings in hues of amber and orange. Along the way, you may also observe cremation ceremonies and unique riverside activities, offering a glimpse into the diverse tapestry of Indian life before dawn. Following the excursion, enjoy leisure time to further explore Varanasi before boarding an overnight train to Agra later in the evening.

Day 5. Agra

Upon arrival in Agra in the early hours of the morning, proceed directly to one of India’s most iconic landmarks and a globally renowned wonder – the Taj Mahal. Marvel at the breathtaking beauty of this 17th-century architectural marvel crafted from pristine white marble, set amidst meticulously manicured gardens. Serving as India’s enduring symbol and a poignant testament to love and loss, the Taj Mahal captivates with its timeless elegance. Despite the monument’s allure, local families may find fascination in capturing photographs with visitors, yet the awe-inspiring grandeur of the Taj Mahal leaves visitors spellbound. Take ample time to absorb the magnificence and ensure to capture a memorable image for posterity, perhaps for your Instagram feed. Following your visit, enjoy free time to explore Agra independently. Consider embarking on a motorized rickshaw tour or visiting the imposing Agra Fort, a sprawling complex originally constructed as a military stronghold of red sandstone by Emperor Akbar in 1565. For a meaningful refreshment break, consider visiting Sheroes Hangout, a cafe staffed by survivors of acid attacks, conveniently located just a brief stroll from the Taj Mahal.

Day 6. Jaipur

This morning, embark on a bus journey to Jaipur, affectionately known as Rajasthan’s Pink City. Upon arrival, make a stop at the iconic Hawa Mahal, also known as the “Palace of Winds,” crafted from pink sandstone, before proceeding to your hotel. Utilize this time to freshen up before embarking on a guided walking tour of the historic old city. During your leisure time, consider opting for an optional tour of Jaipur City Palace or immerse yourself in the vibrant world of Bollywood by attending a screening at Raj Mandir Cinema. While the intricacies of the film may not be fully comprehensible, the enthusiasm of the audience promises an entertaining experience. Moreover, the grandeur of the 1300-seat art deco cinema adds to the allure of this cultural excursion.

Day 7. Jaipur - overnight train

For many travelers, a hot air balloon ride is a quintessential experience in Jaipur. This morning presents the opportunity to soar above the Pink City and witness the awakening world below, offering a breathtaking bird’s-eye perspective not to be missed. Following the balloon excursion, embark on a guided tour of the medieval Amber Fort, led by a knowledgeable local guide who will illuminate its rich history. Perched atop a hill on the outskirts of Jaipur, Amber Fort stands as one of the city’s most iconic landmarks. Before departing Jaipur, indulge in another cup of chai to rejuvenate yourself for the upcoming overnight train journey to Rishikesh later this evening.

Day 8. Rishikesh

Upon early arrival in Rishikesh, a serene town nestled amidst the lush foothills of the Himalayas, commence your journey with an orientation walk led by your trip leader to acquaint yourself with the surroundings. Following the orientation, indulge in some leisurely exploration at your own pace. Renowned as the Yoga Capital of the World, Rishikesh offers an idyllic setting for relaxation and spiritual introspection. Consider a visit to The Beatles Ashram, a revered spiritual sanctuary once inhabited by the iconic band in the 1960s. As evening descends, partake in a tranquil stroll along the sacred Ganges River, enveloped in the ethereal ambiance of temple bells and the commencement of the revered Ganga Aarti, a nightly fire ritual.

Day 9. Rishikesh

Begin your day with a rejuvenating one-hour yoga session, allowing yourself to unwind and center your mind and body. Following the session, consider savoring a flavorful masala dosa for breakfast before embarking on a leisurely stroll along one of the trails flanking the Ganges, guided by your trip leader. For those seeking a more adventurous endeavor, the option to partake in white-water rafting down the river awaits. In the afternoon, reconvene with your group for a brief jungle trek nearby. As night falls, embrace the opportunity to sleep under the stars just outside Rishikesh, nestled in a fixed campsite offering twin-shared beds and modern amenities such as western-style toilets. This unique experience offers a distinct contrast to the bustling ambiance of urban India, allowing you to unwind amidst serene natural surroundings and breathtaking mountain vistas. Indulge in a freshly prepared curry for dinner and spend the remainder of the evening in tranquil camaraderie with your fellow travelers, soaking in the serene ambiance of the wilderness.

Day 10. Delhi

Enjoy a leisurely morning at your campsite, perhaps engaging in a session of yoga or meditation to set a tranquil tone for the day. Later, return to the heart of Rishikesh, where you’ll have access to a day room for freshening up and showering. Spend the remainder of the afternoon exploring the picturesque city, capturing serene moments along the banks of the Ganges and amidst the backdrop of the majestic mountains, or simply reveling in the vibrant tapestry of local life. In the evening, board a train back to Delhi, where you’ll spend your final night. If rejuvenated from your secluded camping experience, consider commemorating a journey well-traveled with your fellow travelers.
