This 8-day journey through the Ionian Islands is designed as a fully immersive Sketching Life experience, where learning unfolds organically through place, movement, and daily creative practice. Rather than treating sketching as a series of standalone workshops, the trip follows a continuous creative arc, allowing observation, drawing, writing, and watercolor to evolve naturally as you travel. Each day builds on the last, creating a rhythm of seeing, recording, reflecting, and refining your personal visual language.
Throughout the week, Alan Ramiro of See the Lines provides daily guided instruction that is practical, approachable, and deeply rooted in real-world travel sketching. You will explore value and composition studies, the Shadows-First approach, watercolor-only workflows, foundational perspective principles, and expressive ink and watercolor techniques. These structured sessions are carefully balanced with curated experiences, solo exploration, and freestyle group sketching, encouraging both focused learning and creative freedom. Travel journaling layouts and written reflection are woven throughout, helping you capture not just what you see, but how each place feels.
Beginning in Zakynthos and continuing through Kefalonia, Ithaca, and Lefkada, Greece becomes both subject and studio. Dramatic Mediterranean light, rugged coastlines, subterranean caves, and human-scaled villages provide endless inspiration for deep visual study. By the end of the journey, guests leave not only with sketchbooks full of work, but with stronger observation skills, refined techniques, new creative friendships, and the confidence to continue their Sketching Life practice wherever they travel next.

Alan Ramiro See The Lines
Alán Ramiro is on a passionate mission to create, connect, and inspire through sketching and teaching on-location around the world. A graduate of Architecture from Los Angeles with 10 years of professional experience, Alán blends design precision with the expressive freedom of travel sketching and visual storytelling.
His connection with Japan began in 2015, during one of his first solo backpacking sketching trips – a powerful chapter that deepened his commitment to the craft and sparked a lifelong love for immersive, cultural travel. Nearly a decade later, he returns to lead others into that same spirit of discovery.
Through See The Lines – his platform and growing creative community – Alán leads Sketching Life workshops, now in their second year. He has taught over 1,000 students live in weekly online classes that explore the art of architecture and urban sketching with clarity and purpose.
Offline, he curates transformative retreats in inspiring destinations like Morocco, Spain, Portugal, and Brazil – each one designed to awaken creativity and foster meaningful connection.
From Rome, Paris, Greece, Vienna, and Prague to Porto – and now Japan – Alán invites you to slow down, observe deeply, and draw your way into the heart of a place. His workshops go beyond artistic training – they’re a movement to live with presence, create boldly, and see the lines that connect us all.
Itinerary
Day 1 Welcome to Zakynthos
Arrive in Zakynthos and make your own way to the joining hotel, where a local representative will assist with check-in and provide a brief island introduction. The afternoon is intentionally unstructured, allowing time to settle in and begin observing your surroundings through an artistic lens. The harborfront and Solomos Square offer gentle first subjects, from boats and reflections to everyday island life, perfect for opening your travel sketch journal.
In the evening, the group gathers for an included Welcome Dinner at a local restaurant. This relaxed first night sets the tone for the journey ahead, with Alan introducing the Sketching Life approach and encouraging guests to focus on observation, curiosity, and personal expression rather than perfection.

Day 2 Light, Water and Coastlines of Zakynthos
Travel west to Porto Vromi Maries to begin a boat journey along Zakynthos’ rugged coastline. Time near the Blue Caves allows for swimming and visual reference gathering, with light bouncing off limestone cliffs and turquoise water creating constantly shifting color and value relationships. The cruise continues toward the iconic Shipwreck Beach, where a slow boat approach offers powerful compositional views. Beach landing is currently restricted, but the elevated perspective provides excellent observational material.
Later, join Alan for a structured three-hour guided session focused on understanding Mediterranean light, reflections, and simplifying complex coastal scenes into clear, confident sketches and watercolor studies. The remainder of the day is free for rest, solo sketching, or informal group sessions as you experiment with techniques introduced during the workshop.

Upon arrival in Kefalonia, transfer to your hotel and settle in. Later, Alan leads a three-hour guided session centered on composition and working from travel observations, exploring how to design scenes using a blend of reference, memory, and personal interpretation.
