Hi all! Our names are Cassie and Danielle, and we are the hosts of the outdoor podcast National Park After Dark.

We have been traveling with our community for over three years now and have seen some truly remarkable places. With nearly every continent under our belts (Australia – we’re coming for you!) we have visited dozens of locations with hundreds of listeners turned friends.

We are here to support you and your relationship with adventure. Our hope for our travels together is that you create new memories throughout the world in a safe and exciting way while forming lifelong friendships along the way!

Itinerary

Day 1 Welcome + Edinburgh's Underground

Begin your adventure by making your own way to the joining hotel in the heart of the city. As dusk falls, step into Edinburgh’s darker side with an underground city and haunted graveyard tour, where chilling stories and eerie locations bring centuries of legends to life. From hidden tunnels to the infamous Mackenzie Poltergeist site, it’s the perfect introduction to Scotland’s ghostly charm.

After emerging from the shadows, gather for a welcome dinner at a warm and inviting local pub or restaurant.

Day 2 Edinburgh Arthur’s Seat and Time to Explore

This morning, set off on a rewarding hike up Arthur’s Seat, where rugged paths, sweeping views, and volcanic landscapes create an energising adventure. Along the way, stop at the mysterious site where 17 miniature coffins were discovered, a centuries old enigma that continues to puzzle historians and storytellers.

After returning to the city, enjoy free time to explore Edinburgh at your own pace. Visit the National Museum to see several of the coffins on display, wander winding historic streets, or relax in Edinburgh’s cosy cafes.

Later, you may choose to join an optional whisky tasting (more information to be provided once the trip is confirmed).

Day 3 Loch Lomond and Aberfoyle

Leave Edinburgh behind as you travel toward the bonnie banks of Loch Lomond and into the enchanting Trossachs. On arrival in Aberfoyle, enjoy a beautiful 4 mile circular walk through ancient woods and riverside paths, pausing at Doon Hill, where a lone pine is said to mark the gateway to the Fairy Queen’s realm.

The day ends at the historic Drovers Inn, famed for its ghost stories, atmospheric charm, and centuries of travellers passing through. With tales of wandering spirits and Highland legends, it’s the ideal setting for a memorable Highland night.

Day 4 Glencoe and Fort William

Begin with a journey into the haunting wilderness of Glencoe, stopping first at the remote ruins of Luibeilt Lodge, where a chilling 1973 encounter became famous through BBC Radio 4’s Uncanny. Continue deeper into Glencoe to explore the story of Corrag, the Witch of Glencoe, whose legend is woven into this dramatic valley and its turbulent history.

In the afternoon, take on a circular hike with a steep ascent to sweeping mountain views across Fort William, Loch Linnhe, and The Great Glen. Finish with a visit to Eas Chia aig, the Witch’s Cauldron waterfall, where folklore and natural beauty collide.

Day 5 Loch Ness and Inverness

Travel along the scenic Great Glen, passing Loch Lochy and Loch Oich before reaching Fort Augustus on the historic Caledonian Canal. Continue to Loch Ness, where you’ll explore atmospheric Urquhart Castle before enjoying a tranquil cruise on the legendary waters.

Arrive in Inverness, a walkable Highland city full of history, charm, and scenic riverside spots. Spend the afternoon exploring at your leisure, from hilltop castle views to cosy pubs and boutique shops.

Day 6 Culloden And Cawdor Castle

This morning brings a visit to Culloden Moor, the haunting site of the final battle fought on British soil. Walk the windswept plains where many report ghostly cries, figures in tartan, and an eerie stillness tied to the tragedy of 1746.

Continue to Cawdor Castle, a striking fortress linked to Macbeth and rich with legends. Discover the story of the Earl’s daughter, said to roam the halls in a blue velvet dress after a tragic and unsettling fate.

Day 7 Outlander Day

Today you’ll journey between Inverness and Edinburgh, visiting some of the most iconic Outlander filming locations. Explore the charming village of Falkland, walk through the grand courtyards of Doune Castle, admire the sweeping landscapes around Kinloch Rannoch, and wander the beautifully preserved streets of Culross.

Whether you’re a dedicated fan or simply love Scotland’s dramatic scenery, this day blends history, Jacobite culture, and cinematic magic. Locations visited may vary depending on conditions and timing.

Day 8 Fond Farewell

After breakfast, your Scottish adventure comes to an end, but the stories you’ve collected will linger long after you’ve left. Enjoy a final wander through Edinburgh if time allows, or toast the journey with a last Scottish coffee before continuing your travels. Scotland may let you go today, but its mysteries have a way of calling you back.
