Rebecca Walsh – Hike Like a Woman

Hi, I’m Rebecca. I’m a guide, ski instructor, Army Veteran, breast cancer survivor, mountain climber, and a big fan of adventure travel. I started Hike Like a Woman in 2014 because I wanted to smash barriers to entry into the outdoors and help women explore. So far, I’ve led over 50 group trips, from the Wyoming wilderness to the rugged Andes and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. I’d love to have you join me on an adventure.

Itinerary

Day 1 Les Houches to Les Contamines

Meet your group in Les Houches at 9 a.m., then ride the Bellevue cable car for sweeping views over the Chamonix Valley. The hike begins with an ascent through wildflower-filled meadows and crosses the dramatic Col de Tricot, where the Bionnassay Glacier reveals its icy splendor. Continue downhill past the peaceful Alpage du Truc, dotted with traditional wooden chalets, and wind your way through quiet forests before arriving in the charming village of Les Contamines.

🥾 Walking Time: 5.5 hours
⛰️ Elevation Gain: 650 meters (2,130 feet)

Day 2 Les Contamines to Les Chapieux

Set off on an ancient Roman road that climbs steadily through larch forests and alpine terrain. The scenery becomes more dramatic as you ascend to Col du Bonhomme (2,329 m), followed by a challenging but rewarding push over Col de la Croix du Bonhomme (2,479 m), where the panoramic views stretch endlessly in all directions. Descend into the peaceful valley of Les Chapieux, a rustic hamlet known for Beaufort cheese farms and alpine pastures.

🥾 Walking Time: 7 hours
⛰️ Elevation Gain: 1,450 meters (4,750 feet)

Day 3 Les Chapieux to Col Chécrouit

Begin the day with a gentle climb through remote alpine terrain, leading up to the Col de la Seigne (2,516 m) and crossing into Italy. Enjoy dramatic views of Mont Blanc’s south face as you descend into the Val Veny. After a break in Courmayeur, a final climb takes you to Col Chécrouit, where a cozy mountain hut and one of the best sunset views on the trail await.

🥾 Walking Time: 8 hours
⛰️ Elevation Gain: 1,190 meters (3,900 feet)

Day 4 Col Chécrouit to Refuge Bonatti

Begin with a descent into Courmayeur for a quick espresso stop before the trail climbs to Refuge Bertone, where you’ll be greeted by spectacular views of the Mont Blanc massif. Follow a high balcony trail along the ridge, with expansive vistas in every direction, before reaching the iconic Refuge Bonatti, perched above Val Ferret.
Note: No luggage access tonight.

🥾 Walking Time: 6 hours
⛰️ Elevation Gain: 1,100 meters (3,600 feet)

Day 5 Refuge Bonatti to La Fouly

Climb through rolling pastures to the Grand Col Ferret (2,537 m), the border crossing into Switzerland. From the pass, enjoy stunning views of Mont Dolent, the tri-point peak connecting France, Italy, and Switzerland. Descend into the lush Valais region, arriving in the quiet village of La Fouly, with its storybook chalets and peaceful surroundings.

🥾 Walking Time: 6.5 hours
⛰️ Elevation Gain: 850 meters (2,650 feet)

Day 6 La Fouly to Trient

Hike along a scenic high route above the Rhône Valley with views of distant glaciers and alpine meadows. Depending on the group, you’ll either take the classic Bovine Route or the adventurous Fenêtre d’Arpette (2,665 m), known for its rugged terrain and sweeping vistas. Arrive in Trient, a quaint Swiss village famous for its pink church and tranquil alpine setting.

Descend through lush meadows and forests to the hamlet of Le Tour, where a scenic train ride returns you to Les Houches, marking the end of your incredible alpine journey.
