Mount Toubkal Trek: The Roof of North Africa with Hike Like a Woman

Hosted by Rebecca Walsh from Hike Like a Woman, alongside experienced local mountain guides, this women’s only seven day high altitude adventure takes you from the vibrant heartbeat of Marrakech to the summit of North Africa’s highest peak.
Designed for women who crave challenge, connection and cultural depth, this journey begins in the sensory rich medina of Marrakech. Wander winding alleyways, admire the intricate beauty of the 19th Century Bahia Palace and witness the nightly spectacle of Djemaa el Fna Square as music, movement and colour fill the air.
From the city, travel into the dramatic High Atlas Mountains where the pace slows and the scenery opens wide. Trek through walnut groves and traditional Amazigh villages in the Ait Mizane Valley, spending three nights in authentic mountain gites where you will share home cooked meals and stories with local hosts. The trail passes the sacred Sidi Chamarouch shrine before climbing steadily to Toubkal Base Camp, where the anticipation builds ahead of summit day.
Then comes the defining moment. Ascend Mount Toubkal at 4,167 m | 13,671 ft, the highest peak in North Africa. Standing together on the “Roof of North Africa,” panoramic views sweep across the Atlas range toward the Atlantic coast and, on clear days, to the distant Sahara Desert. It is a powerful achievement made even more meaningful within a supportive, all female team environment.
For those wishing to transition gently back to sea level, an optional four day Essaouira Coastal Extension offers the perfect way to unwind, trading alpine ridgelines for Atlantic breezes, whitewashed medina charm and relaxed seaside rhythms.

Hike Like a Woman with Rebecca Walsh
Hi, I’m Rebecca. I’m a guide, ski instructor, Army Veteran, breast cancer survivor, mountain climber, and a big fan of adventure travel. I started Hike Like a Woman in 2014 because I wanted to smash barriers to entry into the outdoors and help women explore. So far, I’ve led over 50 group trips, from the Wyoming wilderness to the rugged Andes and the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro. I’d love to have you join me on an adventure.
Itinerary

Daily hikes range from moderate acclimatisation walks to a demanding 6 to 8 hour summit day at high altitude. Good overall health, strong cardiovascular fitness and prior hiking experience are highly recommended. You will be trekking and sleeping above 3,000 m | 9,842 ft, so understanding the signs and symptoms of Acute Mountain Sickness (AMS) is essential. Proper preparation and pre trip training will significantly enhance both your safety and enjoyment.

ABOUT MOUNTAIN GITE & REFUGE ACCOMMODATION:
Accommodation during the trek is simple, authentic and part of the adventure itself. In Aroumd, you will stay in traditional Amazigh mountain gites, family run homes converted into welcoming guesthouses. Rooms are multishare, typically with mattresses or low beds, warm blankets and shared bathroom facilities. Evenings are cosy and communal, with hearty home cooked Moroccan meals enjoyed together in a shared dining space.
At Toubkal Base Camp, you will overnight in a mountain refuge, a high altitude alpine hut used by climbers preparing for summit day. Accommodation is dormitory style with bunk beds or platform sleeping areas and communal facilities. Amenities are basic, but the atmosphere is energetic and camaraderie filled, as trekkers from around the world gather to rest, refuel and prepare for the climb ahead.
AIRPORT TRANSFERS:
A scheduled group arrival transfer is included. More information on this will be provided once the trip is confirmed. Departure airport transfers are not included.
