Join your host Sydney Cason on a sweeping journey through one of Asia’s most captivating islands, where ancient kingdoms, misty highlands, and wild coastlines combine into an unforgettable 10 days. Built exclusively for Sapphic women, non-binary, and trans travellers, this is a trip where you can show up fully as yourself – no explanations required, just great company and an extraordinary destination.

You’ll travel through every layer of the island: scaling a UNESCO World Heritage rock fortress, riding a world-famous mountain train through rolling tea plantations to Ella, tracking leopards and elephants on an evening safari through Yala National Park, and winding down with golden-sand days on the southern coast before a final stroll through the ramparts of Galle’s Dutch Fort. Every day brings a completely different Sri Lanka.

Whether you’re cooking string hoppers with a local Sinhalese family in Kandy or watching the sun set over the Indian Ocean at a farewell dinner in Dickwella, this journey balances adventure and ease in equal measure. Come for the temples, the tea country, and the wildlife – stay for the community you’ll build along the way.

Sydney Cason

Hi, I’m Sydney! A 32 year old content creator, storyteller, and proud lesbian traveler. After exploring the world solo, I realized how powerful it is to feel truly seen while adventuring and how rare that can be for queer folks. That’s why I started creating spaces where sapphic women, non-binary, and trans travelers can explore the world together! Spaces where queerness isn’t just welcomed, it’s celebrated as a core part of the journey.

These trips are for both new and experienced travelers. They’re designed to be safe and deeply affirming — a place to explore new countries, share heart-to-hearts, and connect with a community that just gets you. Whether you come solo, as a couple, or with a friend, you’re invited to show up curious and exactly as you are. I can’t wait to travel with you! 🌍💫

Itinerary

Day 1 Arrival in Negombo

Welcome to Sri Lanka! Your adventure begins in the laid-back coastal town of Negombo, just a short drive from the international airport. Tonight’s welcome meeting at 6:00 PM is your first chance to meet your host Sydney and your fellow travellers, sort out the admin (insurance and emergency contact details), and get excited about the 10 days ahead.

If you land with hours to spare, make the most of the beachside location – stretch your legs along the seafront promenade or hire a bicycle from reception to meander through the surrounding countryside. As the evening rolls in, the beach bars and restaurants close to the hotel make for an easy, low-key first night on the island.

🏨 Accommodation

🍽️ Included Meals

  • No meals included

✅ Activities

  • Welcome Meeting with Host Sydney Cason

ℹ️ Welcome Meeting Timing

  • Many flights into Sri Lanka arrive late at night. If required, the welcome meeting can be moved to the morning of Day 2.

Day 2 Negombo to Dambulla

After a relaxed breakfast (and the welcome meeting, if it was pushed to this morning), you’ll leave the coast behind and travel inland to Dambulla, the vibrant heart of Sri Lanka’s Matale District. Your first major stop is the spectacular Dambulla Cave Temples – a UNESCO World Heritage site where five ancient cave sanctuaries are filled with nearly 150 statues and paintings of Buddha, their golden surfaces glowing softly in the dim light.

As the afternoon stretches out, consider taking the optional climb up nearby Pidurangala Rock for sweeping panoramic views of tomorrow’s headline attraction, Lion Rock, rising dramatically from the surrounding jungle. Tonight, a special welcome dinner at the iconic Heritance Kandalama sets the tone for the days ahead in fine style.

  • Dambulla Rock Temple Visit
  • Welcome Dinner at Heritance Kandalama

Day 3 Dambulla to Kandy via Sigiriya & Matale

Rise early to beat the heat – today you’ll tackle the extraordinary Sigiriya Lion Rock Fortress, a 200-metre-tall volcanic rock crowned with the ruins of a 5th-century palace. Frescoed walls, landscaped water gardens, and a final steep climb through the Lion’s Paw gateway lead you to sweeping views of the Sri Lankan jungle in every direction. Allow around 3.5 hours in total for the full experience.

From Sigiriya, you’ll drive south toward Kandy, pausing in Matale to explore a fragrant local spice garden and stock up on cinnamon, cardamom, and pepper. Arrive in Kandy with a free afternoon to wander at your own pace, before heading out in the early evening for a hands-on cooking class and dinner with a local Sinhalese family – learning to make string hoppers, spice-infused coconut chicken curry, and traditional sweets in someone’s home kitchen.

🍽️ Included Meals

  • Dinner

✅ Activities

  • Sigiriya Rock Fortress Visit
  • Matale Spice Garden Visit
  • Kandy Cooking Class and Dinner in a Sinhalese Home

ℹ️ Sigiriya Lion Rock Climb

  • The visit to Lion Rock takes approximately 3.5 hours in total. From the Lion’s Paw, there is a steep 30-minute climb over narrow walkways and steps to reach all points of interest. Guests who prefer not to climb can wait at the Lion’s Paw. The water garden, boulder garden, frescoes, and mirror wall all require the climb to access.

Day 4 Kandy Exploration

Spend the day peeling back the layers of Kandy, the last great royal capital of Sri Lanka. Your morning begins with a guided city walk through the bustling markets and scenic hilltop viewpoints that ring the lake, giving you a sense of the city’s scale, colour, and daily rhythm before the tourist crowds fully arrive.

As evening falls, the city’s most sacred site takes centre stage. The Temple of the Tooth Relic houses a relic of the Buddha taken from his funeral pyre, and if the timing aligns, you’ll witness the traditional pooja ceremony – an atmospheric ritual of drumbeats, dancers, and incense that has been performed here for centuries. Afterwards, an optional Kandy Cultural Dance Performance is a vivid way to close the night.

🏨 Accommodation

🍽️ Included Meals

  • Breakfast

✅ Activities

  • Guided Kandy City Tour
  • Temple of the Tooth Relic Visit
  • Suggestion: Kandy Cultural Dance Performance (Optional, USD 7)

ℹ️ Temple of the Tooth Dress Code

  • When visiting the Temple of the Tooth, hats and shoes must be removed at the entrance. Store them with the shoe-keepers for a small charge, or pack them in your bag – monkeys in the area have been known to make off with unattended belongings. Dress modestly with arms and legs covered past the knee (lighter or white colours are ideal). Socks are recommended to protect your feet from the hot stone ground.

Day 5 Kandy to Ella via Nuwara Eliya

Today the scenery shifts dramatically as you climb into the cool, mist-covered highlands of Nuwara Eliya – nicknamed “Little England” for its colonial architecture and temperate air. Your first stop is a working Ceylon tea factory, where you’ll follow the journey of a tea leaf from plucking to cup and taste the results at the end of the tour.

From Ambewela, you’ll board one of the world’s most scenic train routes, winding through rolling green tea plantations and dramatic mountain ranges before arriving in the charming hill town of Ella. Tonight, Sydney will point you toward the best local spots for live music, cold drinks, and a proper Sri Lankan dinner to cap a day that covers a lot of ground, in every sense.

🏨 Accommodation

🍽️ Included Meals

  • Breakfast

✅ Activities

  • Ceylon Tea Factory Tour and Tasting, Nuwara Eliya
  • Scenic Train Journey, Ambewela to Ella

ℹ️ Travel Information

  • Travel time today is approximately 6.5 to 7 hours.
  • Following damage caused by Cyclone Ditwah, the Kandy to Ambewela section of the main line remains suspended. Train services from Ambewela to Ella are fully operational, and this itinerary boards at Ambewela as planned.
  • Private vehicle transport will replace train travel where required, and any changes to arrangements will be communicated to guests prior to the trip starting

Day 6 Ella Highlights

Lace up early – the morning starts with a hike up Little Adam’s Peak as sunrise light floods the surrounding valleys in soft gold. The trail is well-marked and manageable at around 2 km return with approximately 120 to 150 metres of elevation gain, making it accessible for most fitness levels while still delivering views that are genuinely worth the effort.

From the peak, it’s a short walk to the Nine Arches Bridge, one of Sri Lanka’s most photographed pieces of colonial-era engineering, its graceful stone arches cutting through a wall of green jungle. After a morning of fresh air and great views, a traditional spicy curry lunch at a local family home in a nearby village brings the day back down to earth in the best possible way. The rest of the afternoon is yours to explore Ella’s cafes, shops, and lookouts at your own pace.

🍽️ Included Meals

  • Breakfast
  • Lunch

✅ Activities

  • Little Adam’s Peak Hike
  • Nine Arches Bridge Visit

ℹ️ Little Adam’s Peak Hike Details

  • Little Adam’s Peak is approximately 2 km round trip with around 120 to 150 metres of elevation gain. The trail is well-marked with gentle slopes and a short final incline.

Day 7 Ella to Yala National Park

Leave the highlands behind and head south through Sri Lanka’s dramatic interior toward the wild coastal lowlands. En route, a stop at the spectacular Ravana Waterfall – one of the country’s widest falls and steeped in local folklore – makes for a great photo opportunity and a chance to stretch your legs before the road continues.

Pass through the sacred town of Kataragama before arriving at the edge of Yala National Park in time for an afternoon 4WD safari through the park’s grasslands, lagoons, and scrub forest. Yala is globally recognised for having one of the highest densities of leopards anywhere on Earth, alongside elephants, crocodiles, and a remarkable array of birdlife. Tonight you’ll sleep well at a resort near the park’s quieter back gate.

🍽️ Included Meals

  • Breakfast
  • Dinner

✅ Activities

  • Ravana Waterfall Photo Stop
  • Yala National Park 4WD Evening Safari

Day 8 Yala to Dickwella

Trade the safari dust for salt air as you drive west along Sri Lanka’s southern coastline to Dickwella, a relaxed beach town celebrated for its calm, picture-perfect bays. With the afternoon wide open, the plan is simple: find your patch of golden sand and let the Indian Ocean do the rest.

If a bit of exploration calls you away from the beach, the nearby Hummanaya Blowhole – the largest natural blowhole in Sri Lanka – puts on a genuinely spectacular show as incoming waves blast seawater high into the air above the rocks. It’s worth the short detour. Your hotel for the next two nights is steps from the water.

🍽️ Included Meals

Day 9 Dickwella Beach Day

Today is yours. Sleep in, sunbathe, swim in calm clear water, or rent a bicycle and pedal through quiet village lanes to get a feel for life at the slower end of the island. The resort is your base, Dickwella Beach is your front yard, and the agenda has exactly nothing on it until evening.

As the sun begins its descent over the Indian Ocean, gather with your travel companions for a farewell dinner at the resort – an unhurried meal to toast the journey, swap highlights, and enjoy one last golden Sri Lankan sunset together. Your guide and vehicle will be available in the morning to transfer you to Hiriketiya if you’d like to start the day there.

Day 10 Farewell, Sri Lanka

The final morning brings a fitting send-off as you travel to the charming port city of Galle for a guided walking tour of its beautifully preserved Dutch Fort – a UNESCO-listed coastal fortification where colonial ramparts, ancient mosques, whitewashed churches, and boutique-lined streets exist in rare harmony. It’s a quietly stunning way to close the loop on 10 days of extraordinary travel.

Following the tour, the group transfer departs for Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB) in Colombo, a journey of approximately 2 hours, where your Sri Lankan adventure officially comes to an end. Ten days, one remarkable island, and a travel group you’ll be glad you found.

  • Guided Galle Dutch Fort Walking Tour
  • Group Airport Departure Transfer to Bandaranaike International Airport (CMB)
